Black Crater Fire Update IV

July 29th, 2006

The Black Crater Fire continues to grow, and is now well over 5,000 acres. Tollgate was evacuated this afternoon. Two useless officials interfered with operations, but the Incident Management Team mostly ignored them, thank goodness.

This is the latest report from the Northwest Oregon Interagency Incident Management Team

Evacuation of the Tollgate community was ordered by Unified Command at 3:50 p.m. based on the current weather event with high winds, volatile fuels, and the fact that we are early in the day’s main burning period.

Residents of the Tollgate community are directed to go to the Red Cross evacuation center established at the Bend Skyview Middle School at 63555 18th Avenue, Bend, Oregon. Directions: Go east on Highway 20 past Tumalo, take a left on NW Cooley Road. Stay on this road as it becomes 18th street; the school will be on the right.

There is no pre-notification of Sisters/Cascade Meadows or Black Butte at this time.

Stay tuned for further information and updates.

Crews and equipment continue to arrive to reflect the Black Crater Fire’s #1 priority in the nation.

Governor Kulongoski and Regional Forester Linda Goodman flew over the fire this morning to size up the complexity of the situation and will continue to strongly support the firefighters and the communities.

Not just useless, but more precisely, malevolent perpetrators. The forest policies of these two culls, and their political puppet masters, are directly responsible for the Black Crater Fire, as well as the B and B Fire, Biscuit Fire, and every other fire in Oregon that goes unmanaged because it burns in designated wilderness or roadless areas.
